Carole Alexis Dance Theatre
Ballet des Amériques

ABOUT US
Founded in 2011 by director and choreographer Carole Alexis, a Creole woman, Ballet des Amériques/Carole Alexis Dance Theatre is the leading dance organization in Westchester and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating a professional multicultural dance company—now based in both New York City and White Plains—as well as a pre-professional dance conservatory.
Over the past fifteen years, the company—composed of dancers from diverse cultural backgrounds—has presented hundreds of performances featuring Carole Alexis’s choreographic works throughout the greater New York City area and internationally.
Ballet des Amériques is the first resident dance company of Latin American Theater Experiment Associates, Inc. (Teatro LATEA), directed by Miguel Trelles. Teatro LATEA is located on the second floor of The Clemente Center at 107 Suffolk Street, New York, NY.
Ballet des Amériques/Carole Alexis Dance Theatre is neither a repertory nor a union company. Its mission is to present and disseminate the choreographic vision of Carole Alexis, whose artistic work is deeply rooted in the cultures and traditions of the African Diaspora.
Carole Alexis and the company have received numerous accolades for their innovative artistic contributions, including government proclamations recognizing Ballet des Amériques as the “Premier Dance Company” and “Best Ballet Company and School,” along with consistent media and press coverage.
In response to the widespread closure of theaters during the COVID-19 pandemic, Carole Alexis created the Dancing Caravan Project: an itinerant dance theater equipped with a portable sprung dance floor, sound and lighting systems, costume-changing tents, and audience seating. The project brings Alexis’s diverse choreographies directly into communities through both indoor and outdoor performances across Westchester and New York City.
During this same period, students of the Ballet des Amériques Conservatory have continued to achieve admission to prestigious institutions and highly competitive international training programs, including the Ballet School of the Opéra National de Paris, The Royal Ballet School, English National Ballet School, The Juilliard School, American Ballet Theatre, Bolshoi Ballet Academy, San Francisco Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet West, Martha Graham School, Institut Stanlowa, Nederlands Dans Theater programs, and the École Supérieure de Danse Rosella Hightower.
Students trained by Carole Alexis and Ballet des Amériques have earned finalist distinctions and received numerous honors—including Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Prix d’Excellence awards—at leading international competitions such as the Varna International Ballet Competition, Universal Ballet Competition, Chausson d’Or, Connecticut Classic Ballet Competition, Concours International de Paris, and VKIBC. Some students have gone on to perform with internationally renowned companies, including English National Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Atlanta Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre.
